GMMG Fellowship & International Conference 2026

(GMMG) invites scholars, practitioners, policymakers, designers, engineers, educators, healthcare professionals, and advocates to submit papers addressing accessibility, universal design, and inclusive innovation for persons with disabilities (PWDs).

This Call for Papers supports the GMMG Fellowship and International Conference, with activities taking place in the United States and Jamaica in 2026.

Thematic Areas & Paper Focus

Submissions should align with one or more of the following priority themes:

Universal Design & Built Environments

  • Universal Design as the future of inclusive spaces

  • Transforming built environments for persons with disabilities

  • Accessible school environments

  • 3D modeling of accessible buildings and campuses

  • Smart infrastructure (ramps, elevators, entryways, washrooms, water fountains)

 

Technology & Innovation

  • Assistive technologies and communication tools

  • Accessible healthcare systems and environments

  • Smart homes for PWDs in the era of climate change

  • Accessible information and communication technologies

 

Transportation & Urban Access

  • Accessible transportation as a tool for social and economic empowerment

  • Inclusive sidewalks and pedestrian infrastructure

 

Education, Work & Social Participation

  • Accessible workspaces

  • Reducing anxiety in learning and testing environments through adaptive design

 

Environmental & Regulatory Considerations

  • Government regulations impacting accessibility

  • Climate-related challenges (temperature, sea blast, lighting, sensory impact)

Authors are encouraged to integrate practical models including:

  • Sensory-responsive design (light, sound, texture)

  • Adaptive materials and manipulatives

  • Water, trail, and outdoor accessibility

  • Emerging technologies such as facial recognition and sound-based navigation

Submissions are especially encouraged from contributors connected to:

  • Architecture

  • Public Health

  • Communication

  • Social Work

  • Education

Accepted papers may be presented during conference sessions and shared through the CESC Forum platform.
